Stump grinding is the removal of the stump or root ball after a tree removal is performed. Usually, the stump and root flare will be ground down to 6-8” below grade which will stop the stump and roots from producing sucker growth and regenerating.

Depending on location, stumps are unsightly, harbor insects and cause more maintenance for mowing and weeding.

In consideration of stump removal, most HOA’s require removal if located in the front yard. Some homes on golf courses and other scenic areas may also require removal of unsightly back yard stumps.

Utilities should be located by calling 811 three days prior to any grinding. A 36” wide gate or opening is necessary to access back yard stumps with machinery but other options may be available.
